Hi, I'm Sahana Ramnath! :D


Current Position

I am currently working at Google Research, India as a Predoctoral Researcher. I am in the Advertising Sciences team, and my work is primarily on data augmentation for neural machine translation of low-resource, cross-script language pairs.

I recently had a long paper acceptance at EMNLP 2021 - HintedBT: Augmenting Back-Translation with Quality and Transliteration Hints.

Education

I graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) in July 2020, with a BTech in Electrical Engineering and an Interdisciplinary MTech in Data Science. I was advised for my MTech thesis by Dr. Mitesh M. Khapra.

Internships

In the summer of 2019, I interned at IBM Research, India (AI Horizons Network program). I was advised by Ms. Amrita Saha (IBM Research), and Dr. Soumen Chakrabarti (Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay). As a part of this internship, I submitted an extended abstract (Scene Graph based Image Retrieval–A case study on the CLEVR Dataset) which won the best paper award at the LINGIR Workshop, at ICCV 2019.

In the summer of 2017, I interned at Mastercard Technology Pvt Ltd, Pune, India (Team Enterprise Architecture). I was guided by Mr. Pradeep Unde, and Mr. Krishna Prasad Vasireddy. As a part of this internship, I published a paper titled ‘Performance Benchmarking Of Key-Value Data Stores’ within Mastercard.

Other Interests

I love to read fiction, especially fantasy!

I play Badminton and Table Tennis regularly, and I used to learn/perform Carnatic Music while in school.
